YAP SISTER Vietnamese inspired headband (Mấn mỹ nhân)

This is not my story. This Vietnamese piece was inspired by my good friend Jenai who is of Vietnamese Chinese descent. I came across these hair pieces in my research and reached out to Jenai to learn more. The beauty of this piece is it became a source of storytelling and community bonding for her family. Rather than just becoming a piece that one wears, it became a journey of interconnections through her community including asking aunties at family gatherings and social events on the name, history, and use. These pieces were traditionally made out of a towel and hair was wrapped around it to keep it out of your face.

Depending on your dialect, this piece is known as Mấn mỹ nhân or Quến ngang in other dialects. I hope my Vietnamese friends can reconnect to their heritage through this piece.
